Packaging
We pack most of our orders using 4 different types of packaging:
Cartons: Plugs, 9cm tubes, 1L, PBs (to some extent)
Bags: Bare root stock, plugs
Wool packs: Larger grade bare root stock
Pallet Stacking: For some larger orders we stack on pallets and wrap the stock to keep it secure.
Our goal is to preserve the plants appearance and structure so we take packaging practises very seriously.

Care of Plant Stocks on Receipt from the Nursery
Plants must not be allowed to dry out. All trees should be planted as soon as possible after leaving the Nursery.
1. For Bare Rooted Trees and Plugs in Cartons
Trees as packed (provided there has been no damage in transit) should be safe for 5-7 days leaving the Nursery.
Always store in a cool position.
If delays beyond 5-7 days are unavoidable:
1. Check to ensure roots are moist and, if necessary add a little water to the plastic bags.
2. Moisten, but don't wet the foliage.
3. Leave top flaps of cartons open
If delays beyond 14 days are necessary: Remove trees from cartons and bags, moisten roots, remove any ties and heel into moist sawdust, sand or soil, spacing trees to avoid rotting of foliage.
2. Trees in Bundles
Deciduous trees can be held for 2-3 weeks by occasionally dipping bundles into water up to the top of the sacking
for several minutes.
Evergreens should be removed from bundles and 'heeled in' as above.
3. Trees in Containers
These can be kept for long periods without disturbing, providing adequate watering is given. This is an advantage of container grown stock.
4. Cool Stores
Trees can be kept in Cool Stores for several weeks at approximately 2 degrees Celsius. Carton tops should be open and the humidity should be maintained at a high level.
Post-Planting Care
Weed control
Re-firm soil around the trees.
Pest control
Herbicides
Weed control is essential to give maximum establishment of trees, maximum first year growth and even growth. Please read the labels carefully and/or seek advice as rates and tolerant species vary within different situations and conditions.
Animal Repellent
We recommend the use of a product called Liquid Shotgun as your primary repellent.
