Forestry and Shelter

Utilising our containerised facilities we have been able to produce large quantities of forestry species in order to meet exacting demands within the forestry industry. We propagate both cuttings grown and seedlings in side-slit containerised trays producing high quality sturdy plants.

Among the species produced as seedlings are Pinus nigra, Pinus ponderosa, Eucalyptus nitens, Redwood, NZ Beech, and the Douglas fir range.

Our greenhouse technology allows us to maintain complete environmental control which leads to a high success rate and a strong head start for the seedlings. This head start benefits the seedlings greatly as we slowly harden them off to survive in harsher conditions around New Zealand and out-planting stress

The use of the open ground for bare root production offers the flexibility and the economics of scale.
Quality Radiata pine and Douglas fir (P+1) as well as the Poplars give foresters and farmers wide options. Some amenity species are also grown in the open ground to offer a less expensive product then in larger containers.

Pinus radiata and Leyland's are grown mainly from cuttings sourced from our own high quality stools. This allows us to monitor the stock characteristics and fine tune our propagation techniques as we develop better crops.

Using our computer controlled greenhouses we control the growing environment which gives us the flexibility to propagate without the constraint of seasoned conditions.

Forestry Planning and Preparation Checklist

  • 1. Seek advice from forestry consultants or Oregon Nurseries Ltd. This could possibly give you the best options to meet your needs.
